mordant

a 15s offbeat spot for mordant, a botanical energy drink: two rivals face off in a smoky american bar, and the newt ends the tension with a cold can.

for this personal project, the goal was to test a new way of working: building a full ad spot with generative AI, from the product to the final scenes, using higgsfield’s cinema studio and its built-in ai director.

the challenge was to keep everything consistent from shot to shot: the can and its copper botanical illustration, two very different characters and a single bar seen from several angles, while keeping a playful tone and a gag that pays off in the last seconds.

the project

• started from the product: i imagined a fun product first, an energy drink, with a dark green can, copper engraved plants and a thistle as its emblem, to give the brand a bite (mordant).

•built a product sheet in cinema studio:front, back, side and top/bottom views of the can on a neutral background, to lock the label, the typography and the metal finish before any scene was generated.

• designed the cast with ai director: one character sheet for each hero, full body, back view, close-up and profile: a stocky toad engineer with a toolbelt and a mechanical arm, and his rival the newt with a monocle, a long coat and a brass cane.

• modeled the location: the american bar was generated as a reference set, with a wide view and a second angle, so the space stays the same from one shot to the next.

•skipped the storyboard on purpose: this time i prompted every scene directly. ai director helped me write the first prompts, and i used claude to refine them when the result wasn’t where i wanted it, until the acting, the camera and the lighting felt right.

key learning

when the can, the characters and the set are all locked as references, you don’t need a storyboard to stay consistent: a precise prompt per scene is enough to direct the film.
